CIR Professor to become Honorary Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow

CIR Professor Rowan W Parks, Professor of Surgical Sciences, has become an Honorary Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow. 

Professor Parks was welcomed into the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow as one of seven new Honorary Fellows and three President’s Medal recipients in a ceremony on 5 September 2023.

The ceremony and awards recognise the individuals’ outstanding contributions to health, education, the economy and society.

The guests joined the College’s newest Members and Fellows at the College’s summer Diploma ceremonies at the University of Glasgow’s Bute Hall.

Professor Rowan W Parks

Professor Rowan W Parks is President of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh; Professor of Surgical Sciences, University of Edinburgh; and Honorary Consultant Surgeon, Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh.

He was appointed a Senior Lecturer in Surgery and Honorary Consultant Surgeon in the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh in 1999, promoted to Reader in Surgery in 2006 and awarded a personal chair as Professor of Surgical Sciences at the University of Edinburgh in 2010. He is also General Secretary of the International Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association. He is Past-President of the Association of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland, Past-President of the Great Britain & Ireland Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association and Past-Director of the James IV Association.

I am delighted to be honoured in this way by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow with whom we share the core commitment to education and training, assessment and examinations, and maintenance of professional standards.

The College was founded by Royal Charter from King James VI and I in 1599 to improve the practice of Medicine and Surgery.
