June 2015: Piloting the new “Meet the bacteria” module with a primary 3 class Working towards establishment of "IMPs - Inflammation" (a series of Interactive Multimedia Presentations for School children, currently under development), CIR Principal Investigator Donald Davidson enjoyed piloting the new “Meet the bacteria” module with a primary 3 class this week. The first session covered basic facts about bacteria and our relationship with them (dispelling a few misconceptions on the way), then the children did a hand washing experiment, before sampling themselves and their classroom onto agar plates. The class loved using the electronic voting clickers and were very enthusiastic in conducting their experiment! The second session involved looking at and discussing what they had cultured on the plates and reiterated the key messages. Using the electronic voting system it was also possible to assess change from their baseline knowledge and the demonstrate effective delivery of the key learning points. Donald reports that it was a little chaotic at times, but lots of fun for all, and very well received by pupils, parents and staff. Publication date 07 Sep, 2016
