May 2014: Children were learning how the lungs work and how doctors find out what is wrong with a patient MRC Centre for Inflammation clinician scientists Dr Ahsan Akram and Dr David Dorward recently spent a morning with Primary 4 children from Flora Stevenson Primary School as part of the pupils’ topic on the human body. The children were learning how the lungs work and how doctors find out what is wrong with a patient. They had fun getting to grips with listening to lung sounds through a stethoscope, measuring blood oxygen levels with a finger probe and learning about the damaging effects that smoking can have on the lungs.
