Infection Medicine

Infection Medicine is a multidisciplinary Centre at the University of Edinburgh that consists of academic and clinical research groups working on infectious diseases within the Edinburgh Medical School.

The Centre is currently led by Prof Jurgen Haas (M.D. Ph.D.) and focuses on basic, translational and clinical aspects of infectious diseases caused by a broad range of different pathogens. Infection Medicine is part of the Edinburgh Infectious Diseases (EID) umbrella organization.

Our Research Themes

Research themes within Infection Medicine (IM) include antimicrobial resistance, diagnostics research, global health, host-pathogen interactions, and systems biology/big data. The Centre is involved in both undergraduate and postgraduate teaching for Biomedical Sciences (BMS), Biological Sciences (BS) and Medical (M.B.Ch.B.) students, and has developed an extended teaching and training portfolio ranging from various undergraduate courses on infectious diseases to online and residential Masters programmes, Continuing Professional Development (CPD) courses and a Ph.D. programme in Infection Medicine. It has staff and students from across the world and maintains a very international and interdisciplinary culture.
