Endometriosis trials

Endometriosis trials are led by the Centre for Excellence in Pelvic Pain and Endometriosis Care and Treatment (EXPPECT), which draws on expertise from CIR and the Centre for Reproductive Health (CRH).

The EXPPECT project is co-directed by Professor Andrew Horne from CRH and Professor Philippa Saunders from CIR.

The following clinical trials are currently active.

 

EPiC

EPiC is a single-arm open label exploratory clinical trial to evaluate Dichloroacetate (DCA) as a possible treatment for endometriosis-associated pain.

ESPriT

ESPriT is a randomised controlled trial evaluating the feasibility of laparoscopic treatment of isolated Superficial Peritoneal endometriosis for managing chronic pelvic pain in women.

What is isolated Superficial Peritoneal endometriosis?

The peritoneum is a thin membrane that lines your abdomen and pelvis, and also covers most of the organs in this region. Tissue from the endometrium can embed itself in isolated spots on the peritoneal membrane, which can cause scarring and inflammation.

PRE-EMPT

PRE-EMPT is a randomised multicentre trial to compare medical treatments to prevent recurrence of disease following surgical removal of endometriosis.

PurFECT

PurFECT (Purified Fatty acids for Endometriosis Clinical Trial) is a trial to determine the efficacy of purified fatty acids for endometriosis-associated pain.
