March 2015: Workshop activity at the Dunbar Science festival Professor Julia Dorin in collaboration with Rebecca Scott (CRUK IGMM) developed a workshop activity which ran every hour over two days (March 7th and 8th 2015) at Dunbar Science festival weekend which attracts 3,500 paying attendees. In the workshop the contribution of genes to disease was discussed, a taste test for the ability to taste bitter tastes was conducted and slides of cheek cells were generated and visualised using light in cell imaging. An exercise in making cells with balloons containing various organelles was also introduced for over 8 year olds . Previous years have included such topics as the genetics of Harry Potter (red hair)!
