Dr Chengcan Yao recieves the Geoffrey Burnstock Prize from the British Pharmacological Society Image Dr Chengcan Yao CIR's Dr Chengcan Yao has received a prestigious award from the British Pharmacological Society. The Geoffrey Burnstock Prize recognises the achievements of established researchers and includes £1,000 and the opportunity to give a lecture at a Society meeting. Dr Yao is a Reader in Immunopharmacology at the Centre for Inflammation Research, the University of Edinburgh. Before establishing his independent research group at Edinburgh, he did his PhD and postdoc training in Kyoto University. He is interested in understanding the roles of bioactive lipid mediators in pathophysiology at the barrier tissues, focusing on inflammation and resolution. He is an elected fellow of the British Pharmacological Society and serves at several academic society committees. He has obtained several other prestigious awards such as an MRC Career Development Award and a Young Investigator Award by the International Eicosanoid Research Foundation. Trainees from his group have also obtained or shortlisted for various awards for ECRs such as Academic Training Fellowship and Young Lipid Scientist Award. I am really grateful and thrilled to receive this prestigious Geoffrey Burnstock Prize from the British Pharmacological Society. It encourages me to continue exploring basic biological rules underlying tissue inflammation and repair, searching new drug targets, and developing new therapies for treating inflammatory and cancer diseases.
